PTO 2012 Dodgeball Tournament!
Lakewood’s 5th annual double elimination
Dodgeball Tournament is right around the corner!
Mark your calendars for March 17, 2012.
Games start at 10:30 AM and go until the last teams
are standing!
Due to the unbelievable turnout last year, we have made some
major changes in order to make it a more enjoyable
experience for everyone.
Only preregistered teams will be allowed to play this year. There will be no onsite registration available. All of the brackets will be put together beforehand and available to view upon arrival.
Register and pay by Wednesday, March 14,
to guarantee your team a spot.
The team fee will be $12.
For the tournament,
all paid players will need to cross their names off of our
alphabetical list of players.
For this reason, all players must be included on the
team roster on your registration form.
In case of illness, or unforeseen emergency, please
have your substitute player register under the player’s name
he/she will be playing for.
If you have any questions, please call Ericka at
262-945-2942.
The new changes will allow for easier and
faster check-in, allowing us to start the tournament on
time. That being
said, if your team isn't all there when it’s your turn, you
are able to play, but with only those that are there.
Unfortunately, there is no rescheduling.
Come and play or come and support your
favorite teams! Spectators 4 and under are free, everyone else is $1.
Each bracket will have a winner!
Winning team members in all three brackets will be
awarded cash prizes this year!
See you there!
Read Across America Is Coming!

The focus of the week will be on
READING! We
will have several opportunities to Drop Everything And Read.
There will also be special guest readers in the
classrooms on Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Friday, March 2,
2012. Each day will have a special theme, too
(see list below)!
Daily trivia will be given each morning about Dr.
Seuss or one of his books—so start reviewing all you know
about The Lorax, Horton, Grinch and The Cat in the Hat—and
all the other Dr. Seuss characters!

Two Cheeseburgers with Everything!
Sixth grade art students studied Swedish artist Claes Oldenburg, known for his large-scale sculptures of everyday objects, including two 1962 burger sculptures entitled "Two Cheeseburgers with Everything" and "Floor Burger". Next, the students created their own (normal sized) burger sculptures out of everything from brown paper bags for buns to white styrofoam for raw onions. Five of the students' projects can currently be seen at Mandino's Grill here in Twin Lakes.

The art class even mailed an extra burger sculpture to singer Jimmy Buffet, famous for his song "Cheesebuger in Paradise." Mr. Buffett returned an autographed photograph saying, "To Lakewood Art Students- Fins Up! Jimmy Buffett".
